Drowsy Chaperone

Date

April 2023

Role

Co-Lighting Designer

Design Statement

The vast majority of this play takes place inside the mind of "Man in Chair" discussing his favorite musical, the fictional 1928 musical "The Drowsy Chaperone". With the design, I wanted to make it look as much like a stereotypical grandiose musical as possible, with many bright saturated colors and circling spotlights. Another design concept carried throughout the show was creating a color palette for each of the main characters. Most of the main characters have their own song, and I used our strip lights with our cyc to make a unique two-color palette that follows each character throughout the show.
