Light Board Op/Assistant Lighting Designer
Designer Statement
I did not join this show as an assistant lighting designer. We designed our show during tech week. I was the light board operator and the lighting designer let me busk through one of our tech runs. He enjoyed my work so he took some of the looks I created and put them into the show. One scene I designed was the beginning of Act 2. It takes place in the mind of the main character, imagining a perfect world where her mother didn't die from cholera and all her friends and family are with her to celebrate her birthday. I wanted the scene to have a childlike feel to it with a large pink wash over the stage, with a few of her costume pieces having hints of pink in them. One of the others features the main character and their caretaker waiting at a train station with an ominous ensemble behind them. I used our texture system and the cyc lights to create a separation between the two, but make it feel like they were lurking behind.
