Dancing Home: Going Home
Date
November/December 2022
Role
Lighting Designer
Designer Statement
Going Home was a part of a larger concert named "Dancing Home", with each piece having a connection to home. In this piece, the sense of home in a relationship with a parent, and how that shifts when you become a caregiver as well as still being their child. Also the idea of what happens when a loved one of any kind leaves the shared 'home' of the relationship for a new 'home' that you both know has to be separate. One design choice was to have the 2 central dancers in a lane of light down the center of the stage, as a way to show when the characters fall off the path and dance outside of that lane. I also used a lot of cool pale colors to create a sense of calmness.
